Klöckner Pentaplast introduces LiquiGuard™, the latest innovation in the Pentapharm® line of pharmaceutical blister films. Until now, limitations of blister films to withstand hot-fill liquids and other emerging dosage forms presented too great a technical challenge for blister packaging to be a viable option for nutraceuticals and medications beyond solid oral dose formulations.Until now, limitations of blister films to withstand hot-fill liquids and other emerging dosage forms presented too great a technical challenge for blister packaging to be a viable option for nutraceuticals and medications beyond solid oral dose formulations.

If you’ve ever had a skunked beer, you’re familiar with the negative effect sunlight can have on products. Photo-degradation is a very real issue even in pharmaceuticals where sunlight and fluorescent lighting can affect the color steadfastness of packaging and even negate the effects of a drug’s active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). About 1/3 of pharmaceutical products require some form of light resistant packaging. That’s where Atlas Material Testing Solutions comes in.Atlas debuts their suite of Weather Durability Testing equipment to combat photo-degradation of pharmaceuticals and packaging.

Existing options for bottle scavenging are limited by a number of hurdles including short shelf life, risk of spillage, and quick saturation without immediate recapping. CSP Technologies introduced two innovative scavenging solutions at Pack Expo that improve solid dose stability: PHARMAPUCK™ and ACTIV-SEAL™.CSP Technologies added two new products to their robust suite that scavenge moisture, reactive impurities, and odors.

After three years of development, Klöckner Pentaplast debuted their LiquiGuard™ solution for packing liquid and semi-liquid doses today at Pack Expo. Their client needed a non-stick packaging solution that could resist high temperatures, prevent dehydration and agglomeration, retain flavor, and still be child resistant. The solution takes advantage of the inherent benefits of liquids by creating an easy to swallow/drink single dose that can be conveniently and discretely stored on a person.Klöckner Pentaplast meets client needs for innovative packaging solution for liquid and semi-liquid single dose meds.
Reaping the efficiency benefits of automated filling and packaging technology can be challenging for manufacturers who process low volumes, where high-speed machines’ capabilities are excessive and costly. Additionally, as we reported after Pack Expo Las Vegas in 2015, operator safety in pharmaceutical packaging is becoming more of a focus as small volume, potent drugs such as cytotoxics are developed.Vial filler offers automation, safety benefits for R&D and small batch manufacturers.
Redimark is so new, in fact, that it didn’t have time to organize its own booth here at Pack Expo. But Dean Hornsby, a Matthews veteran whose business card now reads “Redimark Brand Evangelist,” is at the show creating plenty of buzz, so Redimark is very much a part of the Pack Expo experience, booth or no booth. Small-character digital Thermal Ink Jet printing, or TIJ, is what Redimark offers in the first, and so far only, machine available, the Model TC12. It uses cloud connectivity to make backup, storage, and retrieval of coding data fast and effortless.Redimark, a new marking and coding company out of Portland, OR, is described as a brand of Matthews Marking Systems but is in fact a unique business entity represented independently from Matthews.

Blister packaging becomes most critical, perhaps, in containing and protecting potentially life-saving pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Here, blisters are commonly used for unit-dose packs that help patients adhere/comply with vital medication regimens. Form/fill/seal equipment is used to pack medications in which thermoformed cavities are formed out of flat sheet or film, including aluminum-based film that offer strong oxygen and moisture barrier. The venerable blister pack thrives in multiple industries and is suitable for an incredibly diverse range of consumer packaged goods. You'll see these blisters used to contain everything from valuable electronics to toys to hardware to automotive products. Blister packs help protect products from external factors such as humidity, contamination, and light.
The idea is to use multicolor LED lighting inside the framework of a machine—here it happens to be a case packer--to cue end user personnel on the plant floor as to the condition of the packaging equipment for which they are responsible. Blue is one of the colors involved. Schneider calls it Schneider blue, but just five days removed from a rather memorable baseball game in Cleveland, I’m quite certain it’s Cubbie Blue. In any event, blue lighting signifies that the machine is purring along the way it’s supposed to.Intelligent Illumination is on full display at the Schneider Packaging booth in the South Hall, and what a colorful display it is.
